Steve Powell

Steve B. Powell, Sr., age 68, of Gulfport, passed away on December 9, 2021.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Steve B. Powell, Jr., Louis Anthony Powell, and Richard Brian Powell; “adoptive” Dad, Walter Johnston.

He is survived by his wife, Kim V. Powell; his daughter, Catrina Ladner (Heath); grandchildren, Ethan, Aidan, Gavin, and Angelina; his “adoptive” mother, Grace ‘Honey’ Johnston; stepmother, Lola Powell; siblings, Ray Powell (Debbie), Sherry Sexton (Dan), Dean Powell (Linda), Angel Powell, and Tellis Powell.

Mr. Powell was born in Meridian to Tellis Powell and Nora Blackmon Necaise.  He worked for many years at Hill Behan Lumber Company in sales and management before retiring from Lowe’s.  He loved to go fishing, especially floundering, and enjoyed playing golf when he was able.  Shooting pool was his specialty, and because he was so good, many pool halls had banned him.  He loved telling jokes, and he loved food! Whether it was sushi, seafood, Mexican, or steak, he enjoyed it all!  Topping those meals off with a Bloody Mary or Margarita was a definite.  Many restaurants he frequented had his table waiting on him when he arrived on a certain day and time.  He will be remembered as being very social and spent hours on his phone talking to friends and family.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 13, 2021, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, from 1:00-2:30pm.  Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:30pm.  Burial will be in Free Church of God Cemetery.
