Stella C. Turan, age 83 and a resident of Gulfport, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, in Gulfport. Stella was a long time member of St. JosephaÌââ¢s Catholic Church and was very active in the church community volunteering her time and artistic talents for the church wherever needed. Her special love was with the Legion of Mary. She has always been deep in her faith in GOD and let it guide her life.
As children, we saw neighborhood kids bring their injured animals to her to nurse back to health. If anybody needed help she came home and emptied out our pantry. Many times she brought strangers home for a hot meal. It was this compassion that she tried to instill in her family.
She loved her family and always gave individual attention to each one so they knew they were special to her. That wasnaÌââ¢t an easy task with seven children and a ton of grandchildren! We drove her crazy sometimes and pushed her to the limits of sanity aÌâ"" but she always had a big heart to see through to the love. And itaÌââ¢s that love thataÌââ¢s going to get us through this time and knowing that weaÌââ¢ll be seeing her again in heaven.
Mrs. Turan is preceded in death by her parents, Albert & Teckla Greciak Sandel and her son, John Albert Turan.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, John P. Turan, Jr., of Gulfport; her children, David (Nancy) Alexander of Gulfport, Barbara Turan of Gulfport, Deborah (Basil) Munro of Pensacola, FL, Laura (Howard) Lawson of Metter, GA, James (Jennifer) Turan of Biloxi, and Mary (Greg) Dodd of Gulfport; her sister, JoAn Chemelewski; her brother, Marion (Caroline) Sandel, all of Detroit, MI; 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
