Stanley Bailey

Stanley Louis Bailey, Jr. died Saturday, July 4th , 2009 in Collins, Mississippi. He was born on December 31, 1924 at the Kings Daughter Hospital in Gulfport, Mississippi and resided for many years at 3621 9th Street, Gulfport.
He was preceeded in death by his father, Stanley Louis Bailey, Sr., mother, Estelle R. """"Daisy"""" Bailey of Gulfport and sister Ellen Virginia Bailey Menetre of Natchez, Mississippi.
He attended West Ward Elementary School prior to attending High School at French Camp Academy in French Camp, Mississippi from 1937 to 1941. He was employed by the Coca Cola Bottling Company in Gulfport from 1941 to 1943. In July of 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in the Pacific. He went through """"Boot Camp"""" at the Navy Training Center, Great Lakes, IL.
After boot camp, he was assigned to the USS ALGORAB (AKA-8) and later the USS BLUE RIDGE
(AGC-2) both ships saw extensive action in the South Pacific. He was awarded 5 Stars on the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and American Theater Ribbon.
On March 2, 1946 he was Honorably Discharged from the Navy and went to work for the Klotz Cracker Factry in New Orleans, LA. as a delivery truck driver. In 1948 he worked for his father at H.T. Cottam Company in Gulfport.
In 1986 he was admitted to the U.S. Navy Home in Gulfport. Following damage to the Naval Home in 2001, he was relocated to the Veterans Home in Kosicusko, Mississippi and thereafter to the Miss State Veterans Home in Collins, Mississippi.
He is survived by his brother Captain George (Annette) T. Bailey, USN (Ret) of Gulf Breeze, FL.; five nephews, Mark (Karen) L. Bailey of Alpharetta, GA., Richard G. Bailey of Austin, TX., David (Jeni) A.C. Bailey of Santa Rosa Beach, FL., Bryan (Judy) Menetre of Marietta, GA., Patrick G. Bailey of Pensacola, FL.; and two nieces, Caroline Menetre of Marietta, GA. and Mary Ellen (Larry) Edwards of Marietta, GA.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 11 am at the Bailey Family Plot in Long Beach City Cemetery. Arrangements handled by RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Long Beach.
