Sr. Anna Louise Bumbera, R.S.M.

Sister Anna Louise Bumbera, R.S.M., age 79 and a Sister of Mercy for 56 years, died April 11, 2023 at Convent of Mercy in Mobile, Alabama.

Sister Anna Louise was born, raised and educated in Gulfport, graduating from St. John the Evangelist Elementary and High School. She entered the Sisters of Mercy, St. Louis, MO in 1966. She received a certificate in Elementary Education, a B.A. in Social Studies from Maryville College in St. Louis, and additional study in Early Childhood education.  Sister Anna Louise ministered in schools, hospitals, and child care programs in Missouri, Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Of Sister Anna Louise’s 56 years serving the people of God, she committed 24 of those years to the Diocese of Biloxi. In December 2021, Sister Anna Louise moved to Mobile for surgery for a brain tumor from which she never fully recovered.

Sister Anna Louise is preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Louise Antonsich Bumbera, a sister Jennie Lenora Bumbera; and Leonora and Nick Pitalo, her aunt and uncle.

Sister Anna Louise is survived by her sister Rosemary (Joe) Vandenberg; nephews, Joe (Allie) Vandenberg, Michael (Carley) Vandeberg, and niece Kristy (Alex) Uhl; and great nieces and nephews. Sister will be greatly missed by other family members, friends, and her Religious family, the Sisters of Mercy.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Anna Louise will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, Gulfport on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 10:30 am preceded by visitation at 9:30 am. A reception will follow the Service. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport after the reception.
