Silbern Lee King, aged 79, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2021, surrounded by his family. Lee was a greatly beloved teacher, mentor, father, grandfather, and husband.
Born on November 29, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Lee was a lifelong Hoosier. He was an avid athlete and fan of basketball, golf, and running. He is often remembered wearing one of his many watches or hats.
After enlisting in 1960, Lee served for two years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was stationed with the Strategic Air Command.
During his career, Lee taught students all across the country and was honored as a distinguished educator by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers twice. His legacy lives on in those he educated and the minds and hearts he touched. Lee was a registered respiratory therapist and Director of Respiratory Care. He was a member of The Lambda Beta Society and the first registered respiratory therapist in the state of Montana. His passion and service in his field lives on in his son, Mark Shields.
A man of humor and heart, Lee King lived larger than life, always ready to embrace what was next. Witty jokes or stinging sarcastic comments were always ready to share with anyone who would lend an ear. His laughter and earnestness endeared him to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Joanne King; his daughters, Laura King and Erica Clark; his sons, Brad King, Ryan King, Jeff Shields, and Mark Shields; and his grandchildren, Connor Shields, John Taylor King, Lillian Hardin, Annie Rose Shields, Elise Washington, Asia Shields, Kayle De Glau, Emerson Clark, and Keegan Shields.
Lee’s life will be celebrated and remembered with the laughter and fondness that he passed on to so many.The family has chosen not to have services but will later announce a date for a celebration of his life.
With a heavy heart we announce that Silbern Lee King has crossed over the threshold to gaze into the face of God.
Not only was he a loving husband, grandfather, father, teacher and mentor, but a larger than life character whose love and dedication touched, guided and saved the lives of hundreds.
