Sidney Wedgeworth

Mr. Sidney Newman Wedgeworth, age 86, of Long Beach, MS passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022, in Pass Christian, MS.

Sidney was born on April 5, 1936, in Tuscaloosa, AL to the late William Cornelius Wedgeworth and Manilla Brown.  He was a member of First Baptist Church Long Beach, where he was a Sunday School teacher and director of the Long Beach Food Pantry.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved gardening, bird watching and especially his dog, Cooper.  He was a gifted electrician who knew how to fix things that no one else thought possible.  Sidney proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Later in life, he retired from Keesler AFB as the Chief of Quality Assurance in the 1839th E and I Group.

In addition to his parents, Sidney is preceded in death by his brother, Cornelius Wedgeworth, sister, Mildred (James Sr.) Sanders; sister, Sue (Floyd) Swanger; and his great grandson, Aaron Newman Wedgeworth.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Wedgeworth; his sons, Bill (Martha) Wedgeworth, Alan (Betsy) Wedgeworth, and Scott (Dana) Wedgeworth; grandchildren, Mark & Sarah, Jeff and Katie, Dane (Elizabeth) & Jill; great grandchildren, Ansley; niece, Kathy Lockhart, niece, Jimmie Nell Camp, niece Angie Cundiff, niece, Jeannie Cain, nephew Frankie Swanger, nephew, Mike Swanger, and nephew James Sanders; along with many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 24, 2022, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at First BaptistChurch of Long Beach.  The funeral service will be at 11:00 am in the church with with Bro. LaRue Stephens officiating.  Burial will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, MS at 12:30.  Pallbearers will be Dane Wedgeworth, Tony Wilder, James Sanders, Pat Donald, Paul Taylor, Bill Wedgeworth and Honorary Pallbearer John Pybass.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Long Beach, MS Food Pantry c/o First Baptist Church of Long Beach.
