Shirley Loraine Cuevas

Shirley "Loraine" Castelin Cuevas, age 85, of Pass Christian, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Castelin and Roberta Daley Castelin; and her brother Bob Castelin.

Loraine is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, James "Billy" Cuevas; their children, Billy Cuevas (Becky) and Mike Cuevas (Polly); her beloved granddaughter, Rachel Bond; her beloved great grandchildren, Colin and Molly Bond; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A dedicated businesswoman and loving community member, Shirley was the owner/operator of the family business, Pine Hills Nursery, which she and her husband, Billy, established in Pass Christian in 1986. Her lifelong passion for flowers began in childhood, and her dream of being a florist blossomed into a flourishing business, bringing beauty to the lives of many through her work in the nursery.

Shirley's warm personality left an indelible mark on those who were fortunate enough to know her. Described as a very kind, compassionate, and faithful soul, she cultivated not only plants but also friendships that enriched the community. Her love for gardening was matched only by her generosity, as she often shared both her knowledge and blooms with others. She was a member of the Most Holy Trinity Choir and made many friends.

She shall be sadly missed but shall one day be united with her beloved family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 beginning at 1:00 PM at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Pass Christian. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery at Rotten Bayou.
