Shirley Holloway Lee, age 83, of Long Beach, went to be with the Lord and the love of her life, James Lee, on December 16, 2020.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, James Lee; her parents, Curtis & Bernice Holloway; and 2 brothers, Kenneth and Homer Holloway.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Vivian Ward (Larry) and Jane Collins (Bob); a brother, J.L. Holloway (Diane); a sister, Jacquelyn Hansen (Bill); 4 grandchildren, Lauren Leggett (Cooper); Lindsay Ward; Susanna Collins; and Joanna Collins; 2 great-grandchildren, Hardy Lee Leggett and Jamesleigh Leggett; and a myriad of nieces and nephews who she loved like her own children.
Mrs. Lee was a longtime resident of Long Beach and was a member of the Memorial Hospital of Gulfport Auxiliary with over 7000 hours volunteered. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, sending cards, spoiling her family, reading devotionals, and playing Words with Friends. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Long Beach where she was a longtime member of the “Good News Ladies” Sunday School class.
To know Shirley was to love her. She was the family historian but not only that was Long Beach’s source of info. If she knew you, she knew your history, your joys and everyone you were related to. Complete strangers would tell her their life stories. With her family, she always kept us in stitches with her butchering of the English language (we suspect that she did that purposely). She was simply bigger than life – the most beautiful hair, the loudest laugh, the hardest hugs, and the nosiest person ever. Words can’t express our heartbreak now but we know that she is with her Lord and Savior and our precious Dad – whom she had a fairy tale romance for 62 years.
Her family would like to thank the selfless staff and faculty at Memorial Hospital. You are not only professional – you became family to us.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, from 9 – 10 am at the First Baptist Church of Long Beach, 300 N Cleveland Ave., Long Beach, MS 39560. The funeral service will be at 10 am in the church. Interment will be in Long Beach City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
