Shirley Shirl Fayard

August 16, 1943 — June 4, 2010

Shirley Fayard (Shirl), age 66 was born August 16, 1943. After a sudden illness, Shirl went home to be with Jesus the morning of Friday, June 4. She was born in Hancock County and raised in the White Cypress area and had been a resident of Long Beach for 19 years. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach.
Shirl had been employed at Maybelle Manufacturing in Gulfport, MS for approximately 30 years. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt and was known as aÌ‚â‚Å“Mama Shirlâ₝ to many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey & Winnie Necaise and her brother Frankie Necaise of the White Cypress community.
Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Godfrey Fayard, Jr. (known as Gopher); mother-in-law, Mildred Fayard; her sons, Kerry Cuevas (Lisa), Rex Cuevas (Barbara); daughter, Bridget Cuevas Blackwell, step-daughter, Annell Bahm (Rick); a brother, Wilton Necaise; two sisters, Jane Ladner (James) and Borgia Winston; a sister-in-law, Peggy Small (Terry); a total of nine grandchildren & thirteen great-grandchildren, as well as her beloved pets Behr & Booder.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the care Shirl received from her physician, Dr. Allison Wall and the staff of Memorial Hospital as well as all those providing prayers and support at this time.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, June 7, 2010, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Long Beach, at 9:30 a.m. Friends may visit one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Gulf Pines Cemetery.
