Sherry Joan Averett

Sherry Joan "Joanie" Averett, of Gulfport, MS, passed away at the age of 70 on September 17, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. Joanie maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, and love of family and friends until the end.

Joanie was born to Roddy and Sherry Daniel. After dedicating 30 years to her Civil Service career, Joanie retired and was excited to spend her time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother Sherry Daniel; and nephew, Will Daniel. She is survived by Tom Averett, husband of 53 years; daughters, Rachel Sheckart (Jaison), Amy Potts; grandchildren, Ryan Sheckart, Brennan Sheckart, Olivia Potts, and Dayton Potts; her father Roddy Daniel; 2 brothers, Rick Daniel (Jodie) and Rusty Daniel; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joanie loved nothing more than visiting with and hearing stories of her grandchildren and all her nieces and nephews. She found joy in all their milestones and found humor in all things along their journey. There are no words that can express the deep sadness the family holds. Although the road ahead has been altered for all she leaves behind, we find great comfort to know she has been reunited with her mother, whom she missed desperately. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, with the visitation for family and friends starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave.  A reception after the interment will be 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, Biloxi Reception Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport.
