Shannon Lee Mills
“THE SHAN”
September 14, 1950 – September 30, 2024
Shannon Lee Mills - dedicated father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend - passed away at Bethany House Inpatient Hospice in Auburn, AL on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the age or 74.
Son of Edward “Pete” Mills, and Lillian (Ladnier) Mills, Shannon was born on September 14, 1950, in Biloxi, Mississippi. He graduated from Biloxi High School in 1969 and was drafted into the United States Army shortly after, serving proudly during Vietnam, though stationed mainly in Korea. He obtained his associate degree in accounting and worked in insurance his entire career. With great success in his career, he was able to travel the world with his wife and mother of his children, Linda “Sue” (James) Mills. During his life he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, listening to music, singing karaoke, shooting pool, bowling, playing golf, and cheering on his favorite football teams: Alabama Crimson Tide and New Orleans Saints. He had a love for music, singing and dancing which he carried with him to his final days.
He was preceded to heaven by his mother and father: Pete and Lillian Mills; his brothers: Anthony “Tony” Mills, Everette “Eddy” Redam and Robert “Bobby” Mills as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his Ex-wife Linda “Sue” Mills of Long Beach, MS; their children: Angela Mills, Matthew Mills, Heather (Mills) Robison and son-in-law Matthew Robison; four grandchildren: Brannon Booth, Kyle Booth, Ambar (Hooper) Nix and Madison “Madi” Hooper, grandson-in-law: Landon Nix; two brothers: Mike Mills and wife Kayla Mills and Barney Mills as well as cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
While we lost our most beloved dad, many others have lost a true friend and a “partner in crime”. There was so much more to him than just dad, though to us that was his greatest roll. He has been a rock to many, someone you could always count on, and someone that loved BIG. He never met a stranger and was cherished by many with his energy, humor, and fun-loving, optimistic spirit. There was never a dull moment (or silent one) when he was around, and he lit up a room with his charm. He was the most tender-hearted man I have ever known, and his presence will be missed infinitely.
Dad, you will be forever missed and remembered with every breath I breathe! Your laugh was contagious, your positivity inspiring, and your love for life infectious. Matt and I are the people we are today because of you, and we will cherish the wonderful memories you gave us... until we meet again in Heaven. We thank you, dad, for all the laughs, support, words of wisdom, and the love you gave us so effortlessly. We thank you for the beautiful lives we've lived because of you, your hard work, and your boundless devotion to us. The last words you uttered in this life were “You’re beautiful”. I will never forget that moment and it is a testament to the person you were. Even in your last days and in your immense suffering, you lifted others up with your kindness and tender words! My prayer is that you are dancing in heaven with Jesus, singing with the angels, restored in love and peace, surrounded by your loved ones that welcomed you into heaven. I pray that our emptiness will be filled with your memory and that we will see you again.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 26, 2024, on the beach in Biloxi, Mississippi behind CTA Beach Amenities Complex starting at 4:30 pm. We will have a time of celebration and remembrance followed by a brief memorial service, military honors, and a floating lantern release at 6:30 pm.
We invite you all to share pictures or memories. I feel in my heart that it would be his wish for us to celebrate his full and meaningful life. A precious life that touched so many. Please join us to commemorate his fun-loving, tender-hearted, hardworking, and hard- “playing” spirit. Please dress appropriately to get those toes in the sand and waves.
