In the early afternoon hours on February 12th, 2023, our beautiful mother and grandmother gained her angel wings and was called home to be with our Lord.
Selma “Granny” Burkhalter Barske, was born on March 17, 1938, to Ella Ophelia and Elijah “Whit” Butler in Jones County, Mississippi.
Not a day went by where Selma didn't talk about how much her children and family meant to her, her family was arguably her most important achievement in life.
Selma is survived by her loving children, Terry (Debbie) Burkhalter and Virginia McCool; grandchildren, Tiffani (Adam) Pollard, T.J. (Allison) Burkhalter, Johnny and Mandy McCool; great grandchildren, Christian and Archer Pollard; as well as countless numbers of nephews, nieces, cousins, International Order of the Moose lodge friends, and family members.
We know Selma is smiling down upon us, filled with joy and heavenly peace.
Welcoming Selma home to Glory is her parents; her eleven brothers and sisters; her first husband, Kyle Garland Burkhalter; her second husband and loving Moose Lodge Partner, Paul Barske; along with other dear friends and beloved family members.
Granny, we know we no longer have you here with us, but we are happy knowing that you are with God and his Heavenly Angels watching over us until we all meet together again.
Services will be held at Riemann Family Funeral Home on Three Rivers Road in Gulfport, Mississippi with a memorial wake from 9:30-10:30 am followed by a traditional funeral service officiated by Nugent United Methodist Church Pastor Daniel Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to a charitable organization Selma cared for.
