Sarah Kathryn Nicholson Easterling, age 86, died at home on the morning of April 30, 2012. Kathryn was born December 6, 1925 to Lillie and Fred Nicholson in Laurel, Mississippi. Kathryn graduated from George S. Gardner High School in 1943. She attended Belhaven College for one year before becoming an employee of the First National Bank of Laurel.
In 1944 Kathryn married her high school sweet-heart, Ensign Albert E. Easterling, Jr. in Miami, FL. During their Naval career they lived, among other places, Key West, Boston, Detroit, Pensacola, Honolulu, Monterey, and Brunswiche (GA) before retiring in 1961 to make their home in Long Beach.
Kathryn was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend, committed to Christ and His Church and passionate about bridge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie and Fred Nicholson; her younger sister, Anne Nicholson; her husband, Albert Easterling, Jr.; her son, Buddy Easterling; and her brother-in-laws, Terrell Easterling and Rod Duncan. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Rod (Milly) Duncan of Durham, NC; her daughters, Renee Easterling of Long Beach, MS and Lisa Lani Easterling of Albuquerque, NM; her brother-in-law Leston Easterling of Wesson, MS, nieces and nephews and their children; her bridge partners, her church family and friends.
Kathryn's daughters are especially grateful to St. Joseph Hospice for their exceptional care.
Friends are invited to a visitation from one o'clock until two o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 2nd of May, at Christ United Methodist Church, 6121 Beatline Road Long Beach, MS. The funeral service will be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 2nd of May in the church sanctuary. Interment will immediately follow at Long Beach City Cemetery in Long Beach, MS.
In lieu of flowers and in celebrating Kathryn's life donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 6121 Beatline Rd, Long Beach, MS 39560 or St. Joseph Hospice, 1412 44th Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501.
