Sarah H. Brooks

Sarah H. Steinwinder Brooks departed this world on 28 February 2011.
She was a long time resident of the Gulf Coast. After graduating high school in Meridian, she worked for the Air Force at Selfridge AFB, Mich. She later moved to the Gulf Coast where she eventually retired from the Civil Service. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Gulfport and previously of Handsboro United Methodist Church where she served as a Lay Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and 30 plus years in the choir. She was a member of the Friendship Oak Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and in the Learning in Retirement Group at the Gulf Coast Community College. She was also active in community affairs including the attempt to retain Jones Park for the children of this area.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, MAJ George F. Brooks, her mother, Mary Virginia (Sudie) Steinwinder, her father James M. Steinwinder Sr. and her brother James M. Steinwinder Jr. and her sister Anne Steinwinder Bryant.
She is survived by two sons, SCPO(Ret) George F. Brooks Jr. and TSGT Michael L. Brooks, five grandsons: Ian, Tony, Tyler, Parker, and Jacob Brooks as well as two great grandsons: Hayden Brooks and Ryder Brooks. She is also survived by her brother Joseph H. Steinwinder.
Outside of her love for her family, Sarah very much enjoyed travel to distant places, the pursuit of learning, and being a keen student of history. She loved to paint and was an accomplished artist and was fond of many beautiful things. She was a people person and enjoyed the friendship of many people.
A visitation for friends will be held from 12 noon - 2 pm, Friday, March 4, 2011 at First United Methodist Church, 2301 15th Street, Gulfport.
The funeral service will begin at 2 pm at the church on Friday, March 4, 2011.
Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
