Sammie Nell Herring, age 80, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 14, 2008. She was born on July 12, 1928, in Tioga, Louisiana and was a life long resident of Gulfport. Sammie was an active member of Gulf Haven Mennonite Church, where she served on the Senior Ministry. She retired from Memorial Hospital at Gulfport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Thomas Herring; her parents, James Marion Deen and Ruby Deen and her aunt, Mildred Deen.
She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Ginger and David Bunn of Lizana, Kim and Karl Kern of Delisle, and Judy and Gary Brown of Liberty Hill, Texas; her brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Brenda Deen; her seven grandchildren, David Bunn, Jonathan Bunn, Lee Kern, Robby Russell, Amy Waring, Adrian Liberato, and Vince Liberato; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Sammie loved to cook for family and friends with a warm welcome around the kitchen table. She was devoted to her family and put others above herself. She will be sadly missed.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport, where friends may visit two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Roy Herring, Bobby Barnett, Bo Cuevas, Harold Corwin, Troy Herring, and Charlie Moran. Honorary pall bearer will be Arnold Clark.
