Sabrina Michelle "Shell" Mize, age 65, a native of Ocean Springs, MS and resident of Mobile, AL passed away peacefully on April 12, 2021, in Mobile after she shared the fact that she wasn't feeling well with the nurse taking care of her. Shell simply closed her eyes one last time and went on to be the Angel in Heaven that she has been to so many here on earth.
She was a 1974 graduate of Ocean Springs High School, and earned her Register Nursing degree from Bishop State Jr. College in Mobile, AL in 1987. She worked for Ocean Springs Hospital from 1988 until 1990, when she accepted a position in the Neonatal Unit at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, LA where she worked until her passing.
Shell was a woman of many talents, her ability to care and love the babies she cared for as a nurse was only one of them. Although she was not a natural mother to children of her own, she was a loving mother to so many others. Reading, crafting, sewing, making jewelry, painting and being a dear friend to many were some of her other natural talents. She was awarded The Daisy Foundation Award for providing above-and-beyond compassionate care to patients and families, she was a member of the Ocean Springs Rainbow's, and was considered the Mother Hen of night shift in the Neonatal Unit. Her adventures with her friends yearly to the beach were always a highlight. Shell will be deeply missed by her family and by those who called her their friend.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Malcolm and Laura Mize; her sister, Vicki Mize Huddelston; nephew, Tad Tucker; brother-in-law's, Timothy Tucker and James Byrne, Jr.
Shell is survived by her siblings, Stephaine Nalley (Ralph), Karen Byrne, Tammy Tucker and Kim Mize; she is also survived by her chosen sisters,. Janice Daams and Sherri Hinton (Rodney) as well as 12 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews and 3 great-great nieces and nephews; numerous relatives and very dear colleagues and friends.
A visitation for friends and family will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. funeral service at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd. at Washington Ave. in West Jackson County.
