Ruth Margaret Behan Dufay, beloved teacher and skilled cosmetologist, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, in Gulfport, Mississippi. Born on July 30, 1936, in Los Angeles, California, Ruth’s journey through life was marked by her passions for education and creativity, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Ruth dedicated her professional life to teaching at the Cosmetology School, where her enthusiasm for imparting knowledge and her talent in hair cutting inspired countless students. Her commitment to her craft was evident in her warm spirit and genuine love for both teaching and learning. Ruth embodied the essence of a dedicated educator, always ready to encourage and uplift those around her.
Her educational journey began with her completion of high school, but Ruth's thirst for knowledge went far beyond the classroom. Throughout her life, she embraced travel with open arms, exploring various corners of the globe and soaking in the diverse cultures of the world. Notably, she spent time in Argentina, a place that held special memories for her.
Ruth’s personality radiated warmth, and her joy in teaching was matched only by her love for cutting hair. Her artistry in hairstyling was well-respected, and many relied on her expertise not just for a style change, but also for the engaging conversations that came along with each appointment.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Marchese Jr., who holds her legacy of learning and adventure close to his heart. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Behan and Ruth Behan, her daughter, Ruth Carpenter, and her son, Victor Marchese. Each of them fondly remembered her kindness and passion for life.
