Rubye Saxon passed away peacefully on May 3, 2017 in the care of Canon Hospice and Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. She was preceded in death by her parents, Provie and Clifford Smith; sisters, Alice Kiper and Provie May; grandson, Ian Telemeco; and a half brother, Wayne Smith.
Mrs. Saxon lived a full and happy life with her husband of almost 71 years, D Saxon. In the 1950's, they were stationed in Biloxi, MS near D's Scott County and New Orleans roots and Rubye's family in Pascagoula. They traveled the world during Mr. Saxon's long Air Force career, living in France, South Dakota, Formosa, Okinawa, and Langley, VA. They returned to Gulfport at retirement in the 1970's. Rubye was a member of First Baptist Church of Gulfport, Order of the Eastern Star, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an ardent genealogist and loved to read.
Rubye is survived by husband D. Saxon; children, Scharlotte Saxon, of Gulfport; Stephanie Purvis (Allen) of Gulfport; Ken Saxon (Peggy) of Long Beach, MS; and Deborah Telemeco (Tony) of Harrah, OK. She is also survived by brothers, Sonny Smith (Faye) Grand Bay, AL; Sam Smith (Patricia) of Jacksonville, FL; William Smith (Jenny) of New York; and sister, Willie Culbreth of Anchorage, Alaska. She leaves behind five grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their children. She will be sadly missed by all.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 5 at First Baptist Church of Gulfport from 10 AM to 11 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery in Forest, MS at 11:00 AM on May 6, 2017.
