Roy S. McBride, Jr., went to join the Lord May 15, 2021, while at his home in Gautier, MS.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy S. McBride, Sr., Fanny Mae Perry McBride; his sister, Myrtle F. Nelson (Hutson); and in-laws, Cecil M. McBride (Sarah), and Ernest McBride.
Roy is survived by his loving wife, Helen C. McBride; son, Charles R. McBride (Noreen), and daughter, Sandra D. McBride; four grandchildren, Callie V., Jackie N., Morgan J. and Charles Roy Jr.; a host of nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, relatives and friends.
Roy was born in Hattiesburg, MS., and after living in various cities and states, his family settled in Hattiesburg. He graduated from Demonstration High School where he was an All-State nose guard for the Demons.
After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his military service, he became a Police Officer in Texas for a year, then returned to Hattiesburg where he was employed by the city as a police officer for seven years. During that time he met and married his wife, the former Helen J. Canard. They were happily married for 62 years. After seven years on the force, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service, which he retired from in 1993, along with military service.
After retirement, he and his wife moved to Gautier, MS where he devoted himself to the Pascagoula Elks Lodge, The Gautier VFW and "Our Daily Bread". Over the course of his career and retirement, Roy received the following awards; Postmaster General-Postmaster 8/30/86, VFW Outstanding Service Award, Gauriter, Outstanding Award Postmaster-1986-1993, Elk of the Week, Pascagoula Lodge 1120 in April of 2004, and Certificate of Appreciation, Elk Lodge 1120 in 2018-2019. He received 26 other various awards, certificates and honorary military discharges from the Navy, Army and Air Force National Guard, for his service and dedication.
A visitation for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2021, beginning at 1:00 p.m., all taking place from The Riemann Family Funeral Home, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd., West Jackson County. Interment with full military honors will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
