Our best friend, Roy “Lindsay” Harwood II, passed away at the age of 72 on December 16. He was prayerfully surrounded by his family during his final moments. Lindsay was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Roy Lindsay Harwood I and Florence B. Harwood. On the glorious day of April 7, 1969, he married his “Bambi” and wife of 52 years Diane Ainsworth Harwood. He is preceded in death by his father Roy L. Harwood I and mother Florence B. Humphrey; his brothers in law, Thomas D. Oakley, and Daniel S. Wanko; and his beloved grandson, Caden P. Stovall.
He began his career in 1968 as a United States Marine, and he proudly served his country until 1972. Pops was a captain for the Jackson Fire Department where he was also a paramedic and a rescue diver. He was a devout Catholic that started every day with his Pieta Prayer Book and rosaries. He made his first Catholic Cursillo in 1979, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a supportive Godfather to many. He was the best Dad and Pops ever; creator of our annual Christmas Trails Treasure Hunt, the dad that celebrated the car insurance getting cancelled by taking the family on a beach trip, he loved the beach and the family polar bear dip, and always had a passion for exercise – even did Spartan Races and Tough Mudders into his late 60’s. - - and if you were lucky enough to get caught in his web all night, he was probably shirtless, and you were probably having a Miller Lite.
Lindsay is survived by his devoted wife Diane; his children and grandchildren whom he loved very much; Heather (Trea) Southerland, Kim (Pendleton) Stovall, and Heath (Jessie) Harwood; his siblings, Linda Oakley, Vicki (Glynn) Hillman, Barbara Wanko, Susan (Rock) Kendrick, Debra (Rick) Murphy, and Tracy Holliday; and his grandchildren, Noah, Alden, Weston, Anna, Grey, Georgia, Olivia, Sam, Mills and Drake Everett.
Pops always tried to lead people to Jesus, even in his last breath. We are very thankful for all of the prayers, rosaries, and Masses that our prayer warriors said for Pops.
