Rosemary H. Tully, age 92, of Gulfport, passed away on April 6, 2015.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Daisy Unkefer, her father, Fred Himes, her husband, William H. Tully, and 2 siblings, Iris Shaffer, and Donald Hines.
Survivors include 2 sons, Lawrence Tully and Steven Tully, a daughter, Susan DeBlanc, a brother, Marvin Shaffer, 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
She was a native of Ohio and after faithfully completing her military service in the U.S. Navy during WWII, she was honorably discharged in 1945. In 1947, she married William H. Tully. They attended the University of Southern Mississippi and in 1952, were the first married couple in Mississippi to receive Bachelor of Science degrees under the GI Bill. She later received a master's degree in Social Work from LSU. Her work history included being a teacher at Gulf Coast Military Academy, Gulfport, and a supervisor with Harrison County Welfare Department until her retirement. Mrs. Tully was an avid Bingo player and was also an artist in her younger years.
A memorial service will be Saturday, April 25, 2015, at 2 pm at the Armed Forces Retirement Home Chapel.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jay Umbreit at the Biloxi VA Hospital for his years of care to Mrs. Tully, the nursing staff at Loyalty Hall at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, and the caring staff of Hospice of Light.
