Rosemary Campbell Blakeslee, age 60, passed away Monday, January 4, 2010 in Gulfport, MS.
A resident of Gulfport for 38 years, Rosemary was born in Columbia, Mississippi and grew up in Bogalusa, Louisiana. She graduated from USM with a BacheloraÌ‚â‚â„¢s degree in Elementary Education and received her masters from William Carey University. She taught first grade at Bayou View Elementary School for 16 years, Anniston Elementary for 6 years, and has been a dedicated teacher for 28 years. Rosemary was also the recipient of the Hannah Hatfield Teacher of the Year Award from the Gulfport Junior Auxiliary for excellence in teaching.
Rosemary was a member of the GovernoraÌ‚â‚â„¢s Teacher Advisory Council and was appointed by Governor Haley Barbour to the Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) Board of Directors.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she had served for many years as a choir member and childrenaÌ‚â‚â„¢s choir director. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and the Civic League of Gulfport, and served as president of the Gulfport Junior Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her father, Byron Campbell, and her mother, Marion Campbell.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Duke Blakeslee of Gulfport, and her daughter Rebekah Blakeslee of Jackson.
Memorials can be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church, Gulfport, 5007 Lawson Ave., Gulfport, MS 39507 or to the Bayou View Elementary School PTA, 4898 Washington Ave., Gulfport, MS 39507.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 6, 2010, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Gulfport with a coffee reception for family and friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Gulfport.
