It is with great sadness that the family of Roger Mitchel Wood Announces his passing after a long battle with cancer on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the age of 52. Roger will lovingly be remember by the love of his life, Tonia and his children Anastasia Wood and Keghlea Wood of Long Beach, MS, Ashley Smith, Devon Smith and Taylor Donoian of Gulfport, MS. He will fondly be remembered by his grandchild Gavin Wood of Long Beach, MS. He leaves behind his mother Nancy (Williamson) Wood and Daniel Wood of Gulfport, MS; brothers, Jeff Wood and (longtime family friend Scott Beasley) and John Wood and his many fur babies Chico, Dudley, Anna, Zeus, Jax, Piper, Pepper and Sugar. He was preceded in death by his maternal and fraternal grandparents and his twin brother Richard Wood.
Roger was born in Wabash, IN to Nancy and Daniel Wood on June 28th of 1965. He graduated from Batesville High School in AR, after which he studied at Memphis Academy of Art. Roger joined the United States Navy in January of 1985. He served in Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He left the Navy in October of 1997 to pursue his career in the food service industry. He enjoyed as a manager at Cracker Barrel and Chili's and will be remember for his big heart, and warm smile. He was loved by many and will be remembered by those lucky enough to call him a son, a husband, a father, a brother, a friend, and all extended family members.
His favorite past time was spending time with family and friends. Roger had a passion for creating art and woodworking; you can feel his spirit through the many pieces he created. Many days Roger could be found fishing and if you ever want to feel his spirit near just visit Pass Christian harbor.
