Lt. Col. Rodney S. Thompson, Sr., USAF, Retired, age 89 and a resident of Biloxi, MS died on Friday, September 21, 2007 in Biloxi.
He was a native of Monticello, Arkansas and had been a resident of Biloxi since 1968.
Lt. Col. Thompson served in the US Air Force as a bomber pilot and retired after 29 years of service. During his military career, he received numerous awards, medals, and decorations; including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Silver Star. He served overseas duty in France, the Philippines and during WWII, he served in New Guinea and Australia.
Mr. Thompson loved to spend time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and his pets.
Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his parents, Werter Grady and Margaret Henley Thompson and a son, Randy Thompson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Becky Thompson of Biloxi; his son, Rodney S. Thompson, Jr. and his wife Judith Thompson of Houston, TX; his daughter, Margaret Ann Thompson of N. Richland Hills, TX; his grandchildren, Charles Ragan Crews of Baytown, TX, Kathleen Ann Thompson and her husband Jeremy Johnson of Grapevine, TX, and Kimberly G. Miller and her husband Nate Miller of Tonawanda, NY, and four great grandsons.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, September 28, 2007 at 5:00pm at THE RIEMANN FAMILY'S FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road in Biloxi, where friends may visit thirty minutes prior to the service.
