Robert G. Simmons, 56, of Gulfport, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009 in Gulfport.
Robert lived a full and vibrant life in his short 56 years. He was very blessed with a large family and many friends. He considered everybody he met a friend. His belief was that every soul was inherently good and only believed the best in everyone until proven wrong. Somehow, he still trusted people to do the right thing.
Robert wore many different hats so often - son, brother, husband, father, uncle, coach, friend. He will be dearly missed and only he now knows just how much.
Robert will be greeted at HeavenaÌââ¢s gate by his father, John Sterling Simmons. They have missed each other immensely. We know the world did not stop with your passing but the skies certainly wept.
He is survived by his mother, Delma Simmons; his aunt, Mamie Simmons; his wife of 36 years, Judy Simmons; two brothers, Don Hartfield, and Eric and Robin Simmons; one sister, Sharon and Bob Barrett; three daughters, Stacey Simmons-Bellais and Fred Bellais, Jr., Pamela Keeler, and Elizabeth and Josue Vargas; fifteen grandchildren, Corey Simmons, Bryce Simmons, Cayden Bellais, Brooke Bellais, Skylar Keeler, Shelby Keeler, Raena Keeler, DeaÌââ¢Lena Keeler, Sebastian Fuller, Mercedez-Ann Fuller, Jade Fuller, Josue R. Vargas, Eliud Vargas, Ma. Esther Vargas, and Dromith Vargas; two great grandchildren, Jonthan Vargas, and Issac Vargas; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. All are from Gulfport except his sister who resides in West Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Eric Simmons, Chad Lee, Fred Bellais, Jr., Josue Vargas, Michael Millfelt, Gary Griffin, Dustin Richard, and Saxton OaÌââ¢Brien.
Robert lived in Gulfport for the majority of his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gulfport and also visited Community Baptist Church on Landon Road. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #422, Order of the Eastern Stars #374, and the Joppa Shriners of Woolmarket. Robert worked at all the Winn-DixieaÌââ¢s along the Gulf Coast for 25 years before retiring, then worked at Walmart for the last year to keep busy. Robert graduated Gulfport East High School and attended University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
