Robert Molloy

Mr. Robert L. Molloy, a resident of Orange Grove, MS passed away Monday afternoon August 28th at his home.
Robert was born in Payne County, Oklahoma on November 22nd, 1929, the son of Luther and Florence Molloy. Robert graduated from Ripley High School in 1946 And joined the US Army Air Corps in the same year.
Robert was a loving and loyal husband to his wife of 56 years, Marjorie Jean Molloy.Robert was the loving father of Debra Ann Davis and Kris Molloy, and the loving grandfather of Tray Robert Fowler.Robert was a Christian and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. Robert struggled to be a better Christian and seek self improvement in his later years.Robert began his military life in the US Army Air Corps,then transitioned to the USAF,followed later by duty with the Oklahoma Army National Guard in Cushing, OK. Robert finished his military life in the US Navy SeaBees proudly serving multiple tours of voluntary duty in Viet-Nam. After Robert returned from Viet-Nam and a tour of duty at Chase NAS in Beeville, TX,. He was transferred to the Gulfport CBC shortly after Hurricane Camille and made numerous deployments from the Gulfport CBC, and then served as a Heavy Equipment Instructor in the aÌ‚â‚Å“Aâ₝ School until his retirement in 1980. Robert was an accomplished heavy equipment operator who passed his skills and knowledge on to his son and many young SeaBees. Robert was a skilled mechanic with a knack for getting things fixed, sometimes using unconventional methods. Robert served in the US Postal Service concurrently with his service in the Oklahoma National Guard as a letter carrier in the days when the routes were walked, and service was more personable and the letter carrier was more accessible to the canine population. To date of his death Robert could still name the persons who lived at any valid address in Cushing Oklahoma during the time that he delivered mail. Robert was proud that he was able to return to active duty in order to serve as a SeaBee during the outset of the War in Viet-Nam. Robert was the Son of a WWI, AEF Veteran who served in France and was wounded in action several times.
Robert was a member of the US Navy Fleet Reserve Association. Robert received numerous service awards during his career to include The Army Occupation Medal, Japan, The National Defense Service Medal 2nd Award, The Viet-Nam Campaign and Service Medal with Bronze Star.Robert worked offshore in the
oil industry as an Engineer on a Lay Barge for McDermotts, out of Bayou Bouef, Louisiana for several years, an employer that he held in high regard to the end.
Robert had a good sense of humor and really enjoyed helping people laugh and be happy. In his retirement Robert led a simple life and made friends easily at the Edgewater Mall Coffee Shop. Robert could be found with his early morning friends, a cup of coffee and warm conversation. As Robert aged, he was not able to go for coffee as frequently as he desired, but he truly enjoyed
every trip.Robert is survived by his wife,Marjorie J. Molloy; his daughter, Debra A. Davis of Mountain View Arkansas and her husband, Robert Davis; his son Kris Molloy of Long Beach, MS; his grandson Tray Robert Fowler of Jonesboro,
Arkansas and numerous nephews, nieces, extended family and friends in Oklahoma, the Midwest and West Coast and his Boston Terrrier, Precious whom he loved.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Florence Molloy of Perkins, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be at the Grace Memorial Baptist Church on Thursday, August 31st beginning at 5:00 p.m., with a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m.. Robert will then be returned to Oklahoma. Visitation will be at the Palmer Funeral Home in Cushing Oklahoma from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, the 1st of September. A service will be
conducted on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Cushing at the Palmer Funeral Home followed by burial at the Oakdale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family request that a contribution in the memory of Robert Molloy be made to the Grace Memorial Baptist Church Library in Gulfport, MS, or to the Margaret Williamson Scholarship Fund at Box 362 in Ripley, OK.
