Robert Earl Mixon, age 90, passed away on Oct 17, 2023 at Gulfport Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Robert was born March 1, 1933, in Hattiesburg, MS to Earl and Hazel (Crowe) Mixon. Robert attended Eatonville High School. At the age of 17, Robert enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in Korea. After serving 2 years, 3 months in the Army, Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force where he retired as an electronic instructor at Keesler AFB. He was a proud veteran and valued his time and service in the military. Robert retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant in August 1973.
Robert married his high school sweetheart, Ann in 1950. They were blessed with three children: Robin, Lisa and Kimon. They divorced in 1976. Robert then met Susan Moody Noble and her son, Chris Noble, in 1978. Robert and Susan married on March 14th, 1980. They had one daughter together, Kilea.
Robert’s hobbies included square dancing, riding horses, spending time with his family and friends and gardening. He had a passion for growing fresh vegetables that he would share with family and friends. He took great pride in his garden.
Robert took classes and became a master gardener and believed in the following quote, “The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul.” — Alfred Austin
Robert is survived by his children, Robin Scalero (Ray), Lisa Luke (Ted), Kimon Mixon (Teresa), Chris Noble (Lori) and Kilea Mixon; grandchildren, Jessica and Kendra Richards, Lauren Poole, Jenna Mixon, Brandon Luke, Morgan Mixon, Allie Luke, Austin Noble, Brody Noble, Tyler and Abbie Francis and Caitlyn Black (Damen); his siblings, Joe Mixon (Laurie), Carol Massey and Pat Prine, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan M. Noble-Mixon; parents, Earl and Hazel Mixon, and brother, Gerald Wayne Mixon.
His loved ones will remember his strong love for gardening, God and Country. A service honoring the life of Robert will be held at 2:30 pm on November 17, 2023 at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave, Biloxi. We invite anyone who knew him to attend and remember his life. We ask attendees to wear bright colors.
