Dick Ketchum, of Bay St. Louis, passed away last Wednesday at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA after battling the effects of heart surgery performed on April 20.
Dick was born in Charleston, West Virginia to Kathryn (Mummy) and Dr. Robert (Daddy Bob) Ketchum, Sr. He spent his childhood years in Smithers and Charleston, WV and later spent two years at West Virginia University before joining the Air Force in 1953. After spending four years as a commissioned Second Lieutenant navigator in the Air Force and Air Force Reserves, Dick enrolled in the University of Houston and received a degree in Geology. Dick retired from the Polar Branch of Naval Ocean and Research Development Activity (NORDA) at the John C. Stennis Space Center in January of 1987.
While in the Air Force, Dick met his wife, Barbara Ann Krischke. He is survived by his six children; Ron, Jim, Tom, Karen, Kelly, and Petie and nine grandchildren. Dick also has three surviving sisters, Marilyn, Jane, and Cornelia.
Dick loved dogs, cars, white-water rafting, fishing and camping. Fall afternoons frequently found him watching his beloved Mountaineers on the gridirons of the Big East Conference. NASCAR and open-wheel racing were also favorites.
