Robert Joseph ""Bob"" Jones, passed away on Novermber 6, 2010 in Gulfport. He was born in Natchez, MS on March 31, 1928.
He had been a resident of Gulfport for 47 years and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Gulfport.
Bob was a veteran of the Korean War. As a member of the Mississippi National Guard, he completed a series of officer training courses and received his commission when the Guard was activated in 1951. He served with the 155th Infantry in the Dixie Division.
After his military service, he began his career in paper sales and management. He was the General Manager of the Bancroft Paper Companies in Natchez and Jackson. In 1963, he accepted employment as President and General Manager of the Gulfport Paper Company, retiring after 23 years. He was active in many community and business organizations. He felt honored to serve as President of the Southern Paper Trades Association that included eight southern states, remaining on the Board of Directors until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr and Mrs William (Mary) Jones and two brothers, Bill Jones and Jack Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jones; his son, Robert Wayne (Bobbie) Jones of Elgin, TX; his daughter DeeAnn (Don) Stafford of Gulfport; five grandsons, Robert Joseph ""Butch"" (Elizabeth) Jones of Grenada, MS, David Wayne (Tiffanie) Jones of Biloxi, twins, Sam and Luke Jones of Elgin, TX, and Garlon Pemberton of Gulfport; a granddaughter, Allison (Alan) Sala of Biloxi; and four great grandchildren, Laney and Tucker Sala, Brewer Jones, and Hayden Pemberton.
A private family Memorial Service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church Chapel on Tuesday, November 9, 2010.
The family prefers memorial gifts to Trinity United Methodist Church, 5007 Lawson Ave, Gulfport, MS 39507.
