Bobby Jones, age 41, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012 in the comfort and surroundings of his parent's Gulfport home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He and his fianceÌ, Betty Chadwick had just returned from MD Anderson in Houston where Bobby had been in a one person Clinical Study for the past 20 months. Bobby was their only patient with his type of cancer. MD Anderson plans to publish its research and use it for a possible future cure of his disease. Bobby and Betty resided in Destin, FL until it became necessary for them to leave the home they loved and to live near MD Anderson where they resided for the past nine months.
Bobby was born in Biloxi and grew up in Gulfport, graduated from Gulfport High where he played varsity soccer. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau. He was then employed in executive advertising sales. In March 2006 he co-founded Going Coastal Mississippi, the first lifestyle magazine after Hurricane Katrina. Going Coastal was the predecessor to today's South Mississippi Living. Bobby helped organize and provided business consultant development to South Mississippi Living before moving to Destin. In Florida Bobby became a rising star with Verizon Wireless before he was diagnosed with cancer and continued to work as long as he was able.
Bobby's family and Betty want to thank his many friends and relatives for their prayers, financial support and encouragement. As Bobby's family we are all very proud and will always remember the successful fundraiser held at the Gulfport Yacht Club in July 2011, along with the Gulf Hills Golf Tournament both organized by Bobby's loyal friends who helped him financially continue his fight.
Bobby was an athlete as well as an artist. He enjoyed winter trips to the ski slopes with his brother, Jeff and their friends. He had a passion for surfing and the Destin waves which provided the backdrop for Betty's photos of him surfing. Bobby and Betty also loved to play golf. Bobby and his family were members of the Gulfport Yacht Club and Bayou Bluff Tennis Club. During his youth he also enjoyed skate boarding long before the fad ever became popular and earned and maintained his nick-name ""skatin bob"".
While in Gulfport Bobby attended Trinity United Methodist Church with his family and was a member of First United Methodist Church Deland, Florida.
Bobby was preceded in death by his grandparents, Cliff and Aline Jones and Ruth Glenna Locknane of Erlanger, Kentucky. He is survived by his parents, Bob and Linda Jones of Gulfport, his fianceÌ, Betty Chadwick. He is also survived by his brother, Jeff Jones, his wife Allison, and their two year old daughter Skyler Mae. In addition, Bobby is survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins all of whom live out of state. Between the love of family, Betty and his beloved pet, Maya, we will always remember Bobby's kindness, beautiful smile and unconditioned love.
