Robert E. Day, 83, a long-time resident of the Gulf Coast, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 in Pascagoula. Born in Jackson, MS, he was the son of the late Robert Elam Jones Day and Minnie Potter Malvaney Day.
Mr. Day was an active member of Coalville United Methodist Church for over 30 years, where he was a lay leader, Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. Mr. Day graduated from Mississippi State University with a Civil Engineering degree and went on to serve in the U. S. Army and the Mississippi Army National Guard, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He worked with Mississippi Power Company, having been the Project Manager at Plant Daniel Coal Units and then working several projects at Plant Watson before retiring. Mr. Day was also involved in numerous community activities.
In his younger years, he loved swimming and diving, and he carried his love for the outdoors throughout his life. He enjoyed camping with his family, bird hunting, fishing and photography. He was very well respected and will be remembered for his telling of stories and jokes.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Norma C. Day and his parents. Survivors include his three children, Suzanne Day Price (Marty) of Easley, SC, Cynthia Day Dickerson (Steve) of Big Point, MS and Russell E. Day (Susan) of Wade, MS; his sister, Monteith Hanna of Jackson, MS; his seven grandchildren, Steven Hearndon (Erin), Jacob Dickerson (Katie), Justin Dickerson, Crissy Price Skelly (Brandon), Dani Price Sorrells (Josh), Katelyn Day and Kimberly Day; five great-grandchildren, Keegan and Gavin Hearndon, Hannah and Wyatt Dickerson and Blythe Skelly; and other loving family members and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 pm until 8:00pm on Friday, July 11, 2014 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, at Coalville United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Coalville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coalville United Methodist Church, 12298 Shorecrest Road, Biloxi, MS 39532.
