Robert Allen """"Mac"""" McCrory, Sr. passed up into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, after a 6 month battle with stomach cancer.
Bobby was born in February of 1942 in Lexington, MS to Doris Allen (Mac) and Susie Ouida Spell McCrory. Known as """"Crowbar,"""" he attended Lexington High School where he played offensive guard and linebacker for five years. During that period, the Hornets won the Mid State Conference Championship. Three days after graduation, Bobby was in U.S. Army basic training, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, with most of his male senior classmates. Eight weeks later, they were in the 31st Dixie Division Artillery being trained at Fort Sill, OK. After completion of his Army training, he returned to Lexington and continued MS Army National Guard training. Three months later, he joined the active U.S. Air Force. After completing Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Lackland, TX, Mac was selected for the elite USAFSS Command after receiving his special Top Secret clearance to receive his first Intell training at Goodfellow Air Force Base, TX, and later advanced Tri-Services /NSA intelligence school at Cory Field, Pensacola.
Bobby was well known as an avid reader in all subjects. Mac received several commendation awards and two classified awards from the National Security Agency. Mac was president of the KAS Branch of the LDL Association in 1974. Robert also graduated from the Jefferson Davis Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi. Robert then served 14 years in the Federal Civil Service at KAFB and two years at the Gulfport Naval Base. He then quit and opened R. Allen and Associates Independent Insurance Agency. He was an extraordinary poker player.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William (Bill) Prince and Alice Gilbert McCrory of McAdams, MS and his maternal grandparents, Gordon O. (G.O.) and Mattie Hayes Spell of Lexington, MS.
He is survived by his first son, Robert, Jr. (Sally) and his children, Jason, Kyle, Kaitlin, and Colin of New Hampshire, and second son, John Patrick (Madonna) and his children, Madonna Leigh, Mallory, and Madelon of Ocean Springs; parents, Doris Allen """"Mac"""" and Ouida Spell McCrory of Lexington, MS; brother, Gerald Lynn """"Jack"""" (Earnestine) of Lexington, truly loving angel of a sister, Billie Sue McCrory (Jimmy) Mabry of Brandon, MS; former wives, Norma Dell Boswell Beaty of Columbus, MS and Nhamia """"Mia"""" M. Qureshi McCrory; longtime very best friend, Christina """"Tina"""" Phipps; numerous nieces and nephews; and last, but never least, his loving long haired chihuahua companion of over eight years, Joshua NMQ Justice McSackets.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2009, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, where friends may call from 6-8 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009, at Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors and services conducted by the Methodist Chaplain, Gary Morris.
Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Mabry, Mike Shelton, Andy Anderson, Wayne Reed, Jason Langford, and Joseph Calabrese.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
