Richard """"Dick"""" Vincent Spatzer, age 64, died April 30, 2008, in Gulfport, MS.
He was born in Newton, MS, but grew up in the states and abroad, until becoming a resident of Gulfport in 1965. He was a charter member of Ramsay Memorial United Methodist Church in Orange Grove. He worked at Gulf Coast Industries for a short period of time.
Dick is best remembered for his love of family, the New Orleans Saints, Elvis Presley, comic books, John Wayne, and Marshall Dillon. He was mentally challenged, but led a full and active life. He was mild-mannered, always smiling, and always a joy to be around. He enjoyed his weekly trips to the Hwy 49 Wal-Mart, where he loved to ride in the electric scooters. He loved visiting his barber, Gene, and friends at the Norwood Village Barber Shop.
The family would like to thank Ms. Agnes Jacobs of Biloxi, MS, for her loving and devoted nursing care of Dick for the past eight years, and Mr. Richard Keegan, of Fort Fairfield, ME, for being such a loving, devoted family friend.
He was preceded in death by his father, T/Sgt. (Ret.) Thomas J. Spatzer, I.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Mrs. Melba D. Spatzer, of Gulfport; brother, Thomas J. Spatzer II, of Grand Bay, AL; sister, Melanie Spatzer, of Gulfport; sister-in-law, Yvonne E. Spatzer, of Grand Bay, AL; uncles, Kenneth and Gene Gurba, both of Pennsylvania; aunts, Rose Spatzer, of Shamokin, PA, Rita Spatzer, of Paxinos, PA, Maxine Dawkins Spalding, of Gulfport, Glenda Dawkins, of Vancleave; nieces, Deborah (Wayne) Joyce Spatzer Dykes, of Mobile, AL; Dawn Marie Spatzer, of Vancleave; Regina Chandra Spatzer, of Semmes, AL; Melissa (Reggie) Spatzer Peterman, of Gulfport; Mandy (Spencer) Spatzer Watts, of Long Beach; numerous cousins, grand-nieces and nephews; and one great-grandniece.
Services will be conducted at two o'clock p.m., May 5, 2008, at Ramsay Memorial United Methodist Church at 12472 Dedeaux Road in Gulfport. Visitation and viewing will be two hours prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens Cemetery on 28th Street in Long Beach.
