Richard "Ricky" Lee Overby, known for his infectious joy and unwavering smile, passed away at the age of 60 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Ricky’s cerebral palsy didn’t allow him to articulate his thoughts, but no words were needed to see his joy and happiness. He was usually smiling, and thrived on attention; he would always tell you, “hey” several times. To know him was to have a ray of sunshine in your heart. He was truly an angel of God sent to us on earth to love and be loved for 60 years.
Ricky's journey on this earth was one marked by love and compassion, both given and received. His family extends their deepest gratitude to the South MS Regional Center in Long Beach for embracing Ricky as part of their family. In his final weeks, North MS Medical Center became Ricky's home, where the staff on the 3rd floor west stepdown provided not just care but immeasurable kindness and empathy to Ricky and his loved ones.
Born on September 11, 1963, in Gulfport, Mississippi, Ricky brought light into the lives of all those around him. His passing on July 15, 2024, leaves a void in the hearts of many. The memories he leaves behind are a testament to the impact he had during his time with us.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Overby; and his grandparents, Robert & Pauline Overby and EL & Gertrude Beard. He is survived by his mother, Lanette Overby of Mobile, AL; brother, Gary Overby of Mobile, AL; sister, Julie Young and husband Alan of Mars Hill, NC; nieces, Kathryn Young and Kaitlyn Young of Mars Hill; as well as uncles, aunts, cousins spanning from Florida to California.
A visitation in honor of Ricky will be held on Monday, July 29th from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 PM at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport. This gathering serves as an opportunity for friends and loved ones to celebrate the beautiful life that Ricky lived. Ricky will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport.
In our hearts and memories, Ricky will forever remain a cherished angel who graced our lives with love and kindness beyond words. May his spirit continue to inspire kindness and compassion in all who knew him.
