Richard Jay aÌâÅBigfootaÌâ OaÌââ¢Shields, 50, passed away at home, Thursday, June 7, 2007, surrounded by family and friends.
He was born March 4, 1957 in Mountain Home, Idaho to the late Jay OaÌââ¢Shields and Margaret Earline OaÌââ¢Shields, who resides in Pass Christian.
RichardaÌââ¢s passion was truck driving, which he did for 27 years. Criss-crossing this country, hauling whatever they hooked to his rig. He was a big fan of Peterbuilt, and always took pride in the rig he drove. The handles he used were aÌâÅBigfootaÌâ and aÌâÅShadowaÌâ. In the last few years, he became an avid bike rider. If his bike was gone, he wasnaÌââ¢t home.
Richard is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Celeste Michelle Derouen, his father Jay OaÌââ¢Shields. His Maternal Grandparents Earl and Colestus Necaise and his paternal grandparents, William D. and Willie OaÌââ¢Shields, and Lela OaÌââ¢Shields. And his niece Trisha Lee Carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Cullisa OaÌââ¢Shields. One son; Heath Lemieux (Laci Myers), Jennings, LA. His daughters, Desi Derouen (Rick Koppie) and Beth OaÌââ¢Shields(Charles Trahan); both from Johnson Bayou, LA. And Camille Edson, from Pass Christian, MS. Three grandchildren: Reagan Derouen, Slate Lemieux and Grayson Trahan. His brothers, William (Pat) OaÌââ¢Shields, Johnson Bayou, LA and ENC Christopher (Priscilla) OaÌââ¢Shields, Sr., San Diego, CA. His sisters, Gayle Allen (Kenneth) Christenson, Darlene (BUC Ernie) Carpenter, Pass Christian, MS. SSgt Tina (Bruce Ahlgren) OaÌââ¢Shields, Mesa, AZ and Christine OaÌââ¢Shields, Pass Christian, MS. 5 God-children; Katrina Carpenter, Trisha Woods, Anthony Moran, Eli Christopherson and Jalen OaÌââ¢Shields. His life included numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, friends, fellow truck drivers and bike riders.
Visitation will be after 2 pm Saturday at the RIEMANN FAMILYaÌââ¢S Gulf Coast Funeral Home, 9113 Kiln-DeLisle Road, Pass Christian, MS. A Prayer service will be at 7 pm. The Funeral Service will be 2 pm Sunday in the funeral chapel. Interment will follow in Rotten Bayou Cemetery.
