Richard Melvin Johnson, Jr., of Long Beach, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2007 in Gulfport.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard M. Johnson, Sr., and Iva Mae Wade Johnson; son, Richard Jerry Johnson; and two granddaughters, Michael Christelle Rothe and Tonya Marie Cook.
Richard is survived by five children, Jennifer L. Kling (Patrick) of North Carolina, Richard Wayne Johnson of Texas, William Joseph Johnson of Texas, Marcia K. Goren (Bruce) of Tampa, Florida, and Eva M. Stephens of Gulfport; ten grandchildren, Patrick Evan Rothe, Rochelle Johnson, Darcee Johnson, Stephen Goren (Alison), Bruce Nathaniel Goren, William Scott Goren, Cody Kling, Richard Alan Stephens, Aaron Michael Stephens, and Sara Nicole Stephens; two great-grandchildren, Luis A. Jackson and Kaelynn Goren; his former wife, Joycell Johnson Cox; and his cat, Cleopatra.
Richard was a life-long resident of the MS Gulf Coast. He was a musician and music was his life from age nine. He played with numerous bands along the coast, Hattiesburg, and Jackson, including the U.S. Army Band.
Friends are invited to join the Johnson family for visitation on Friday, July 6, 2007 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at THE RIEMANN FAMILY'S Riemann Funeral Home, Hwy. 49N., Gulfport. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 7, in the funeral home chapel, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
