M/Sgt Richard 'Hoppy' Hopkins, US Air Force, ret., age 79, of Diamondhead, died on September 10, 2007 in Bay St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maurine Smith Hopkins, and her parents, Henry Hopkins and Leona J. Hopkins.
'Hoppy' is survived by his wife, Elizabeth 'Betty' Hopkins of Diamondhead; his children, Audrey Tillman and her husband, Kenneth, of Baton Rouge, LA, and Barbara Torrey and her husband, Burke, of Vicksburg; a sister, Beverly Brown of Coosbay, OR; five grandchildren, Parish Tillman and Garrett Tillman, both of Baton Rouge, Dr. Scott Torrey of Madison, MS, Brent Torrey of Columbus, TX, and Alan Torrey of Brandon, MS; and three great grandchildren.
In his early years, he was active in the Civil Air Patrol and a member of the Ocean Springs VFW, Post 5699. He was a founding member of the Gulf Park Estates Volunteer Fire Department, a past volunteer deputy sheriff for Jackson County, and a past president of Gulf Park Estates Civic Association. After retirement from the US Air Force after twenty years, M/Sgt Hopkins delivered mail for the US Postal Service in Ocean Springs for seventeen years. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Diamondhead. He was an avid fisherman, shrimper, gardener and built model airplanes.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September, 13, 2007 at 12:30 PM at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Diamondhead, MS where friends may call from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Burial will follow with full military honors at Biloxi National Cemetery
