Richard W. "Cookie" Cook

Richard (Cookie) W. Cook of Diamondhead, MS died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the Woodland Village Nursing Home.
Mr. Cook was born January 2, 1932, in Syracuse, NY. Upon graduation from High School, he served four years with the U.S. Navy. After discharge, he worked several years with General Electric in Syracuse, NY; Fremont, NB; Kinsbach, Germany; Huntsville, AL; Cape Canaveral, FL; and Stennis Space Center, MS. Cookie owned and operated Pasquale's Restaurant in Nicholson, MS. He retired from Computer Sciences Corporation at Stennis Space Center where he earned numerous awards; among them was CSC Employee of the Year presented to him at their annual Headquarters' meeting in Washington, DC.
He was an elected City Councilman for the City of Picayune, a licensed Real Estate salesman, member of the Mill Brook Country Club, American Legion and VFW, and member of the Fin n' Feather of Diamondhead for many years.
Cookie was involved in sports his entire life, either as a player or coach in football, baseball, basketball, and golf. He played both third base and short stop for the NY Yankee minor league. In his younger years, he was an official basketball referee for high schools in NY State. He led a very full interesting life and will be missed by his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Al and Helen Cook; son Ricky Cook; brother Frank Cook; sisters Shirley Stoker and Sally Steinweg; and brother-in-law Jerry Halton.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Judy Cook; son and daughter-in-law Danny and Jeannie Cook; granddaughters Shelby and Kelsey Cook; seven brothers - Kenny, Robbie, John (Sally), Donnie, Harry (Mary), Eddie and Barnie; four sisters - June, Helen, Susie Farewell, and Emily Dewey; sister-in-law and her husband Charlie and Jackie Randall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Memorial Service and Visitation will be held at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln DeLisle Road, Pass Christian, MS, on Saturday, January 22, 2011. Visitation will be 10:00 AM to Noon and the Memorial service will be held at Noon. Burial of ashes will be in family cemetery in Fabius, NY.
