Richard Lionel Brown, Jr.

Ret. 1st Class Sea bee Richard Brown USN, 73, of Gulfport, MS passed away on May 30, 2023 at Driftwood Living Center.  He was born on January 31, 1950 in Staten Island, NY to the late Richard & Helen Brown, Sr. 

Richard loved baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves and Schuckers fan.  As a young boy he played for the Mid Island League out of New York where in 1962 made the All Star and Major League top 10.  Richard also had the opportunity to play in the Little League World Series. 

In 1976  Richard joined the United States Navy.  He served on the USS Enterprise and USS Forrestal.  Richard then enlisted and joined the Seabees and served in NMCB-1 and NMCB-133 in Gulfport.  Richard retired after 18 years of service in the United States Navy.  He was a Life Member of the Island X-1 Navy Seabee Veterans of America, along with the Disabled American Veterans, and Long Beach VFW Post.

In his spare time Richard enjoyed playing golf.  Every year he looked forward to playing in the Geezer Tournament in Middleton, TN, and the Rocket City Retired Golf Classic in Huntsville, AL.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to so many.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Gwen Brown, sons, Richard John (Rachel) Brown, and George Everett, grandchildren, Caleb McCall, and Katlin McCall, Sisters, Jeanne (Dan) Chrabaszez, and Barbara Brown.  Richard also leaves behind to cherish memory a host of friends and extended family.

Graveside Services with Full Military Honors will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 12:30 pm at the Biloxi National Cemetery (400 Veterans Blvd, Biloxi).
