Senior Chief Richard T. Blaine, U.S. Navy Seabees, Ret, passed away on February 27, 2015.
He was born in Morristown, New Jersey. He attended schools in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey and graduated from the Franklin High School. He served with the Navy Seabees in Alaska, Antarctica, Europe, Pacific and the Caribbean. Following his retirement from the Navy, he was employed at Brown and Sharp Mfg. Co. as a Journeyman Electrician. Then he became a Civil Service employee as a Navy Construction Electrician instructor at the Construction Battalion Center, Davisville, Rhode Island. In 1974 the Davisville CB Center closed and the Seabees transferred to CBC Gulfport, MS. Richard and his family moved to the Gulf Coast and he instructed at the Naval Construction Training Center, NCBC Gulfport. He was also employed with the Twentieth Naval Construction Regiment as a Training Technician where he received a letter of Commendation from the Commandant, Fourth Marine Division on behalf of CBC Department's logistical support during Marine training at the Training Center.
Richard was a member of the following organizations: Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 311, Gulfport, holding offices of Secretary/Treasurer, President and a National Chairmanship; CEC/Seabee Historical Foundation, Inc.; Seabee Veterans of America; The Retired Enlisted Association; The American Legion, Post 1995; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3937; Disabled American Veterans, Chapter Five, Gulfport; Antarctic Deepfreeze Assn: Old Antarctic Explorers Assn; USS Glacier Society; Exceptional Citizens Help Organization; American Association of Retired Persons; Staff member of the Retired Activities Office; Beer Drinkers of America; and he was a Turtle.
He was preceded in death by his parents Turner C. Blaine and Mildred Curry Blaine and sister, Mildred Quinn and Phyllis Severa.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn Moxcey Blaine; three daughters, Bernadette Johnson of International Falls, MN, Janice Jones and Rosemary Threadgill, both of Saucier, MS; two sons, Richard T. Blaine, Jr. of South Kingstown, RI and William C. Blaine of Long Beach, MS.; two sisters, Helen Hon of Boca Raton, Fl and Madeline de Valasco of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 12:45 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Rd, Long Beach with a visitation for family and friends from 11:30 AM until the service. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, MS with full military honors.
