Reverend Pierce Douglas Reid, Sr., age 84, resident of Gulfport, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010.
Rev. Reid was born in Lumberton to John Douglas and Mary Entrekin Reid. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and served on the USS Wilkes-Barre, in which he was saved on December 30, 1944, and was called to the ministry shortly thereafter. During his college years, he pastored Harrisburg Nazarene Church in Lafayette, GA and Oneonta Nazarene in Alabama. His first full-time pastorage was at Alton Park Nazarene Church and Lookout Valley Nazarene in Chattanooga, TN. Upon returning to his hometown of Gulfport, he founded Grace Chapel Church on Landon Road in 1969, where he was currently serving as Pastor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vallie Reid; two sons, Philip Daniel Reid and Rev. Pierce Douglas Reid, Jr.; two brothers, Forest and Gene Reid; three sisters, Lydia Reid, Grace Smith, and Sylvia Lee.
He is survived by a loving family, a loving church family, and many others whom he's touched along the way.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 26, 2010, at Grace Chapel Church on Landon Road in Gulfport from 10 am to 2 pm. Funeral services will be held in the church sanctuary at 2 pm.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Chapel Church, 16366 Landon Road, Gulfport, MS 39503.
