Rebecca defined her life by fierce independence and a passion for knowledge. She shared her medical knowledge and healthcare administrative skills with companies from coast to coast and loved her work family. Most of all, she loved laughing with her own family and doting on many of them, mainly her nieces, whom she considered her children.
Rebecca, or to many, Becca, entered this world on the summer solstice in 1950 and left it on October 23, 2023, while battling her toughest opponent at Gulfport Memorial Hospital. However, prior to entering the ring, she reminisced with family about many fond memories of growing up in Opelousas, LA and having the most interesting friends! “Not everyone gets to grow up with friends who fly airplanes while hanging out with their dads, who were World War 2 buddies or experiencing parts of the 60’s and 70’s to their fullest!" She had a joyful smile while talking about her five sisters and her mom, who was an inspiration of strength when widowed and who was also fiercely independent and faithful. Becca even chuckled at being a homecoming queen, high school cheerleader and even a Northwestern University "Sweetheart," but quickly pivoted to: “but all the things you thought were really important at the time, really weren’t.” “One of the most important things in life is making a difference in people's lives... even the smallest gesture." She continued, "I tried my best to do this often and I also liked to help others anonymously."
Becca had a brief marriage during her adventurous life, but decided independence was the way to go! She never had children she could call her own by birth, ergo, the spoiling of her nieces and youngest sibling.
Becca had to say final goodbyes to two other siblings and her parents during her lifetime but was very active in their care.
She is survived by her remaining loving family, who will keep the memories of her generosity, independence, and love alive.
In keeping with her wish of privacy, her family will gather to celebrate her life. In keeping with her spirit of generosity, she would urge anyone who is able, to donate to their favorite non-profit or to an individual in need; anonymously, of course.
Lastly, she had the opportunity to thank him personally, but her family wanted to thank Dr. Alton Dauterive, for his extraordinary compassion and unparalleled skills during her times of healthcare needs over the last six years and providing her with the most compassionate final visit anyone could ask for. They would also like to express heartfelt gratitude for the extraordinary team that took care of her at Gulfport Memorial Hospital from Saturday morning, October 22nd, to the early morning of October 23rd. She left this world at peace.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, Pass Christian, is serving the family.
