Gautier, MS

Rebecca 'Becky' Hill Adkerson, of Gautier, MS, passed away with her family by her side, on Sunday, July 28, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication. Born on October 31, 1952, in Patuxent River, Maryland, Becky's life was a tapestry woven with compassion, hard work, and unwavering support of her family and community.

Becky's journey was one of service and education. She graduated from James Campbell High School in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and shortly thereafter married her soulmate Butch. Before embarking on a remarkable 23-year career as an EL teacher with the Pascagoula School District, she was a devoted PTO member and band parent, always ready to volunteer for her daughter's activities.

Military service played a significant role in Becky's life, as her father's career took her to various parts of the world. Fluent in French, Becky treasured the experiences she gained from living in places like Paris, Washington D.C., and Hawaii.

Beyond her professional and worldly experiences, Becky found solace and joy in simple pleasures. Boating trips to Horn Island with her family were cherished moments, but nothing compared to the happiness she found in being a Nana. From watching Addie Grace dance to cheering on Wyatt and Ike in baseball and football, Becky's grandchildren were the light of her life. A pillar of strength and support for her family, Becky could always be seen proudly wearing Biloxi Indian gear or donning Alabama 'Bama' clothing to root for her daughter and son-in-law's alma mater.

She loved taking her daughter and grandkids on an annual 'Nana Beach Trip' and she always jokingly said she "loved everything about the beach, except the sand!" Becky's spirit will live on forever—a beacon of love that touched countless lives with kindness and grace.

Becky's love extended to her husband of 53 years, Jerry R. Adkerson and their daughter Jennifer (James T. Pyron II) Adkerson Pyron. Her grandchildren Addie Grace Pyron, Wyatt Pyron and Ike Pyron. Her brother James I. Hill Jr, as well a many extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents James I. Hill and Ramona A. Hill.

Becky's absence will leave a huge hole in their family, one that they will fill with memories and gratitude that she was a part of their lives. She will continue to cheer on everyone from above.
