Raymond “Ray” Warren Maldo, Sr., 89, of Saucier, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at his residence.
Everyone loves Raymond was an understatement to anyone who knew or met him. He was widely known as “Big Ray” from LA. Born in New Orleans to Eulalie Berard and Nick Maldo, Ray was a resident of Chalmette, Louisiana until Hurricane Katrina uprooted the family to Saucier, Mississippi.
Ray was the beloved husband to Donna Jean Hebron Maldo for 66 years; father of Raymond Maldo, Jr. & his wife, Jeri; and Debra Maldo Emerick & her husband, George; grandfather and the “best Papa” to Aaron & Nicole Horst, John & Erin Shearin, Walt & Desha’ Martin, and Devon Emerick; and a loving great-grandfather to Gianna, Raylin, Annabelle, Michael, Theodore, Aris and Bernadette.
Ray was a Korean War Veteran and a decorated Sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving in the 78th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion. Ray enjoyed a successful career with the New Orleans Sheet Metal Workers Local #214 before his retirement. Ray was a member of the American Legion Post #0119 in Gulfport and loved antique cars. Cruising the Coast was an event he looked forward to yearly just to cruise with his “Honey” Donna.
Private family services will be held, and Ray will be laid to rest at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
The family request for no flowers to be sent for services.
