Raymon Leslie Furby, age 75, of the Lilly Orchard community, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in Mobile, AL.
Mr. Furby was born in Grand Bay, AL and lived all of his life in the Lilly Orchard community. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was later drafted back in the Army for another tour. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Helena and the Moss Point Masonic Lodge #202. He worked 13 years for Quaker Oats, was self employed in construction, and later retired from Jackson County as a heavy equipment operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Gertrude Furby; and 3 brothers, Louis Horane aÌâÅMonkaÌâ Furby, Rev. Eddie aÌâÅWiggleaÌâ Furby, and Calrence aÌâÅLil BoyaÌâ Furby.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 A̽ years, Melba Furby, 1 son, Mike (Charlene) Furby; 1 grandson, Mike Furby, Jr.; a great-grandson, Braydon Eugene Furby, all of the Lilly Orchard community; 2 brothers, Johnny Furby, Lily Orchard community, and Joe Furby, Grand Bay, AL; 1 sister, Bobbie Hedgepeth, Columbia, MS; special friends, Wayne and Tiny Johnson; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday at the First Baptist Church in Helena. The funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday at the church. Interment, with Military and Masonic rites, will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Helena.
