Rachel Capps

Rachel Stokes Johnson Capps, age 93, of Biloxi, MS, passed away on October 28, 2023.

Rachel Capps was a woman of noble character.  Though she was born in the country, having been raised on a farm in Philadelphia, MS, Rachel spent most of her life on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.  She was married to Robert “Bob” Johnson, owner of Johnson’s Pharmacy in Gulfport and they shared two wonderful sons, Donald, and Joel.  The family had a deep adoration for Ole Miss, as everyone in the family had graduated from there.  Rachel obtained her master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Psychology, following the death of her husband, and worked for Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS as a Substance Abuse Counselor.

In 2005, Rachel married William “Corky” Capps and the two enjoyed participating in many civic organizations such as the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra Guild, Rotary Club, Center Stage in Biloxi and were members of Trinity United Methodist Church.  The couple enjoyed traveling and participating in philanthropic endeavors.

Rachel was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Johnson and William Capps; her children Donald Johnson and Joel Johnson; her brother, Wally Stokes; and her parents, Winnie and Roger Stokes.  She is survived by her grandchildren Natalie Juarez (Ivan) and Jacqueline Blacklidge (Allen); her great grandchildren, Keaton Snell, Ryder, and Benjamin Juarez; her siblings, Lloyd Stokes, and Dean Stokes.

Jacqueline would like to say a special thanks to Jacke Curry and Suzanne Soulie of Home Helpers for assisting in Rachel’s care in her final days.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, MS, with the visitation for family and friends starting at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Gulfport, MS.
