Polly Simmons Allen, age 83 and a resident of Gulfport, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2014, in Gulfport.
Originally from Rock Hill, Mrs. Allen had been a resident of Gulfport for the past 66 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Gulfport for over 50 years, where she taught Sunday School for many years, and she was a recent member of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Gulfport. She was also a member of the Republican Executive Committee in Gulfport.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Dollie Simmons; her husband, Gordon Allen, Sr.; her brother, Bill Simmons and her sister, Liz Caldwell.
Mrs. Allen is survived by her children, Pam Allen Thornton of Gulfport, Gordon Allen, Jr. of Gulfport, Steve (Kathy) Allen of Gulfport and Robin Allen (Lloyd) Lambert of Pass Christian; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank caregivers Margaret Preston and Joy Normand, for loving and caring for our mother as if she were their own, and Stephanie Ledlow from Canon Hospice for her endless love, compassion, faith, and expertise.""
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Gulfport, where family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Pineridge Gardens in Gulfport.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport, served the family.
