Phyllis C. Poorman, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 in Biloxi, MS. She was born in Chester Hill, OH, raised in Point Clear and Fairhope, AL, and a longtime resident of Biloxi, MS. She graduated from Fairhope High School.
She worked for 32 ½ years in civil service at KAFB as a Medical Librarian, and enjoyed gardening, socializing with friends, and LOVED caring for her many feline children who brought her so much joy.
She has been a member of BETA Sigma Phi Laureate Epsilon Sorority, Chapter PL 2795 since 1982.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her first husband of 22 years, Roscoe Harper; beloved husband of 19 years, J. Walter Poorman; parents, Harvey D. and Aline T. Calendine; sisters, Patsy Baker and Sandra Litchet; and brother, Bill Calendine.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon "Sherry" Kennedy and her spouse, Andy Kennedy, also a VERY dedicated son-in-law, of Biloxi, MS; "honorary" daughter, Debbie Wedgeworth and her spouse, Dempsey Wedgeworth of Brandon, MS; sister, Bobbie Thompson of Thomasville, NC; "honorary" sister, Verna Westerburg of Biloxi, MS; "honorary" grandchildren, Jennifer Mooneyham, Heath Wedgeworth, and Beau Wedgeworth of Brandon, MS, Cree Cantrell and Stevie Cantrell of Biloxi, MS; dearest friend of 71 years, Bobbie Baggette of Daphne, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Ben Cheney, 6th floor staff at Merit Health, and Kindred Hospice, all of Biloxi, MS.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., with a special music presentation being held from 12:00 p.m until 12:30 p.m. at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd., West Jackson County. The committal service will follow at 1:30 PM at Biloxi National Cemetery.
The family requests memorial contributions to the Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 B 25th Ave. Gulfport, MS 39501-4832 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
