Phillip "Reo" Winchester was born on September 2, 1955 in Illinois and passed away June 26, 2021, in Long Beach at the age of 65.
Reo was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin "Al" Winchester and Betty Busby Winchester.
He is survived by his brother, William "Billy" Winchester of Long Beach.
Reo moved with his family to the MS Gulf Coast in 1958 and graduated from Long Beach High School with the class of 1974. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1979. He was employed with the Information Technology department at Gulfport Memorial Hospital and then in maintenance for the First United Methodist Church of Gulfport for many years.
Reo was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Long Beach. He was an avid New Orleans Saints fan and season ticket holder for 30 years. He had many interests which included music, sports, classic cars, and last, but not least, riding his motorcycles. He especially had a passion for building and flying radio model planes, was an active member of the MS Coast RC Club, and held a pilot's license. He loved Mardi Gras and was one of the oldest members of the Krefeld of Brew. For many years he attended the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, The French Quarter Festival, and participated in the Running of Bulls in New Orleans. He was a regular volunteer at the Long Beach VFW Post 3937 and was a caregiver to the elderly. Reo will be greatly missed by his many friends and adopted family.
The funeral service will be held at 5:00 PM, Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church of Gulfport with a visitation from 4:00 PM until the service. Friends are invited to attend a small reception following the service.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 10:00 AM in Long Beach City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Gulfport.
