Percy M. Smith, age 84, of Gulfport, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 in Gulfport.
Mr. Smith was a native of Enterprise, MS and has been a resident of Gulfport since 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and he worked at various shipyards, sawmills, and steel industries. He owned and operated Singer Dealerships in both Gulfport and Biloxi until his retirement and he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Mr. Smith was a member and Past Master of Orange Grove Masonic Lodge #635 with a dual membership at Gulfport Lodge #422, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Gulfport York Rite Bodies, and a member of Joppa Shrine Temple in Biloxi, Hamasa Shrine Temple in Meridian, and Wahabi Shrine Temple in Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his only son, Percy Michael Smith; his parents, Ruby and Palmer Smith; 2 brothers: Daniel Smith and Ernest Carol Smith; and 4 sisters: Mary Denton, Victoria """"Lollie"""" Pulley, Hazel Cole, and Glatha Glunk.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Louise Smith; 4 daughters: Christine (Joe) Pol, Patty Gaughf, Luci (Brad) Willoughby, and Pam """"Shelli"""" (Bill) Mixon; a brother, Robert Evans (Yvonne) Smith; 2 sisters: Louanne Smith and Doris (Bill) Farmer; 13 grandchildren: Samuel (Cynthia) Smith, Jade (Peter) Vogel, Sharyl (Darren) Laird, Christie Kessler, Jason Michelle) Kessler, Sarah (Mark) Peduzzi, Joseph Pol IV, Jeremy (Holly) Pol, Joey Lyon, Jered Wheeler, Joshua Wheeler, Justin (Jessica) Branning, and Logan Mixon, 23 great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 - 8 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road. The funeral service will be at 10 am Saturday in the funeral home chapel.
Interment with Masonic Rites will be at Davis Cemetery in Stone County, MS.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children- Shreveport, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103 (www.shrinershq.org).
